BCEC, BRISBANE PROGRAM ANNOUNCED
Ballet International Gala is back bigger than ever before. Coming to Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Brisbane, this is a gala you won’t want to miss.
The show will open with a signature BIG opening featuring a drum line, brass ensemble from The Conservatorium and the winners of BIG’s Little BIG Ballerina competition, introducing our International Ballet Artists. This will be followed by Ben Stevenson’s Three Preludes accompanied by Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition finalist Sheng-Yuan Lynch. This beautiful piece will be performed by Yasmine Naghdi, Principal dancer with The Royal Ballet and Roberto Bolle, Principal dancer with Teatro alla Scala who is set to make his Australian debut with this performance. Next up BIG II will feature the explosive Don Quixote Pas de Deux performed by world renowned Skylar Brandt, Principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre and Daniil Simkin, principal dancer with Staatsballett Berlin. The first act will be concluded with the Grand Pas de Deux from Flames of Paris performed by crowd favourites Shugyla Adepkhan and Baktiyar Adamzhan from Astana Opera, all the way from Kazakhstan.
Act Two will commence with The Bedroom Pas de Deux from what is known as Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s most iconic works, Manon, performed by Francesca Hayward and Australia’s very own, Alexander Campbell. These Royal Ballet principal dancers received a 5-star rating for their performance of this piece by The Guardian (2014).
Ben Van Cauwenbergh's Les Bourgeois will showcase all of Simkin’s incredible technical feats followed by the haunting Pas de Deux, Giselle danced by Adepkhan and Joel Burke. The show stopping, jaw dropping duo, Skylar Brandt and Aran Bell will perform the stunning La Bayadere pas de deux.
Le Corsaire will conclude all variations with The Royal Ballet’s Naghdi and Cesar Corrales who in 2017 received accolades for his performance, winning the Outstanding Male Performance (Classical) Award for his role as Ali in Le Corsaire at the National Dance Awards.
The stage will then light up with Australia’s up and coming rock band, The Selfish Sons with a guest performance by QLD’s Dynamite Studios, creating dance pathways and a stage to showcase Australia’s future talent.
Juliet Doherty will perform a stunning lyrical piece to The Selfish Son’s, performing a song from their new album that is yet to be released which will lead us into the iconic BIG Grand Finale bringing all international dancers back to the stage to go out with a bang.
Don’t miss the BIGGEST Ballet Gala to ever come to Australia this August 26 – 27 at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Brisbane QLD.
